VAT Calculator

This calculator shows you how much, based on the current VAT rates, VAT has been or will be charged on an amount. If the starting figure or price is the amount before charging VAT, you should answer ‘No’ to the question: ‘Already includes VAT?’ The answers are then: the Net amount before tax, the VAT at 20% and the Gross amount including VAT.

For example, if the amount of the invoice before VAT (the starting point) is £12,850, you should answer ‘No’ to the question whether the starting figure includes VAT and the resulting answers are: Net amount £12,850, VAT £2,570.00 and Gross amount £15,420.00.

You can also calculate the VAT and the net amount before tax if you just know the gross amount including VAT. You say ‘Yes’ to the question Already includes VAT? That will provide you with the net amount and the VAT being charged at 20%

For example, if the amount of the invoice (the starting point) is £12,850, but this time the VAT has been included in this amount, you should answer ‘Yes’ to the question ‘Already includes VAT?’ And the calculator produces the following results: Net amount £10,708.33, VAT £2,141.67 and the Gross amount is, of course, £12,850.
